A Rescue Is Not the End of the Story

Every rescued chimpanzee at Tacugama starts a decades-long journey.
Join our CHF 50,000 reward-based crowdfunding campaign to fund veterinary care, sanctuary enrichment, forest protection, and community-led conservation. Backers receive exclusive digital and physical rewards starting from CHF 5.

Every chimpanzee at Tacugama arrives because something went wrong. A mother was killed for bushmeat, a forest was cleared, or a young animal was illegally kept and confiscated.

When a rescue happens, the animal needs formula, specialist food, intensive medical treatment, and years of patient rehabilitation. Chimpanzees can live for decades; every rescue creates a lifelong commitment measured in years, not months

The Protection Balance: Rescue handles the aftermath, but true conservation starts beyond the fence—protecting remaining habitats and working hand-in-hand with local communities so wildlife and people can coexist safely.

We believe in complete transparency.
Every Swiss franc raised goes directly toward our five clearly defined, essential impact lines:

Frequently Asked Questions

• What happens if the CHF 50,000 goal is not fully reached?
We operate transparently with flexible funding tied to specific milestones. Core rescue intake and medical care are funded first, and we publish detailed updates on how partial milestones are successfully delivered.

• How do I know my contribution reaches the sanctuary?
Every milestone is directly mapped to a named budget line, tracked via photo updates, and concluded with a public expenditure statement.

• Can I visit or physically touch a chimpanzee?
No tier includes physical contact. Tacugama enforces strict animal welfare and safety standards that treat chimpanzees as wild animals, never as pets. Higher tiers (like CHF 1,000) offer ethical, non-contact hosted sanctuary visits.
